About
Matthias Matzer began his musical career on the piano at the age of 5. He was born in 1989 in Fürstenfeld in Styria, has lived in Vienna since 2009 and spent several years in England and Scotland, both professionally and in the course of his university education. In addition to professional activities in the field of audio and video production, he completed a master's degree in Management and IT at the renowned University of St. Andrews and was resident jazz pianist at the Old Course Hotel St. Andrews, a 5-star hotel on the oldest golf course in the world.
Musical career
Matthias Matzer studied jazz piano at the Vienna Conservatory with Harald Gansberger and was part of the master class under the direction of jazz guitarist Christian Havel. In his musical career Matthias Matzer has performed in various formations, for example with his own jazz band JazzPaTi, in ensembles and as a solo musician. He arranged music for string and wind orchestras, acted as a studio musician for a colorful variety of productions and was a sound engineer for regional musical performances for several years.
Influences
In addition to his love of jazz, his music is shaped by influences from church music. Growing up in a small place of pilgrimage as the grandson of the organist who worked there, he already played his first mass at the age of 11 on the baroque organ built in 1722.
Debut album
His debut album "Looking Up" is dedicated to the French jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani (1962-1999), whose composition of the same name accompanied and influenced him during his time in England and Scotland. Like the composition Looking Up, the whole album gives confidence and sets the mood for a cozy autumn. Especially to this piece his golden retriever Oscar Peterson began to sing along with only 10 weeks. As a bonus track, Oscar was also allowed into the studio and has since been considered a one-take wonder :)
Life
Matthias Matzer currently lives in Vienna with his wife Sarah and his golden retriever Oscar Peterson and works professionally in the field of IT innovation management and digitalization.
